Back to AberLearn Blackboard Guide

diagram of required minimum presence and enhanced presenceBoth the Required Minimum Presence (RMP) and the Enhanced Presence are designed to help you provide an excellent online learning experience for your students. They have been created by the e-learning group informed good practice in the sector, such as the Blackboard Exemplary Course Program (ECP) rubric, as well as by student feedback.

  1. Required Minimum Presence (RMP) policy English / Welsh - Updated February 2016
  2. Enhanced Presence (EP) guidelines English / Welsh - New in August 2014

The RMP was discussed at the ALTO Steering Group meeting in May 2013 and passed in Senate in June 2013.

In addition to the RMP and EP, AU runs an annual Exemplary Course Award to honour modules that demonstrate exemplary practice.

In Spring 2015, we piloted an Excel workbook that can be used by departments, institutes and individuals for the purpose of checking groups of modules to see how well they meet the RMP and EP. It was revised based on feedback from users, and is available for you to download here: RMP/EP Excel workbook

NEW! There's also a short AberCast Panopto recording which accompanies our AberLearn Blackboard Required Minimum Presence and Enhanced Presence course and provides a brief introduction to the RMP.

Please contact the Blackboard Team at if you have any questions about how to use the worksheet, or feedback on how the worksheet could be improved.
